At the New Life Centre, when holidays approach throughout the year, the LINC teachers make an effort to teach students about the meaning and cultural aspect of that particular holiday. They sometimes teach crafts, special and fun facts as well as share particular cultural foods pertaining to that holiday. During Valentine’s Day and St Patrick’s day, one teacher wanted to tap into the students unique artistic abilities and taught a craft. One student commented that this kind of activity allows them to leave all their daily stress behind and put their focus on that particular activity. They were able to relax, and have fun during a culturally relevant and engaging lesson. The teacher is always proud of their work, as it is a rewarding experience to provide students an opportunity to learn as well as enjoy themselves.
