Today is a day to celebrate Canada, in all its complexity, as we continue moving towards a society where all people from diverse backgrounds participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.
We are grateful for the welcome and support our Indigenous Peoples’ ancestors offered to the very first newcomers to Turtle Island so many years ago.
At MNLCT, we welcome the newest arrivals and walk alongside them as they begin to make Canada home. Part of that journey includes understanding our shared responsibility for “establishing and maintaining mutually respectful relationships” between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people – the 6th Principle of Reconciliation from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
We encourage them – and you! – to build on the knowledge gained through our programming or elsewhere. For an all-ages Canada Day activity, try Building a Tree of Reconciliation, found in the Kairos Activity Book, Ravens: Messengers of Change.
Happy Canada Day!
