Annual & Organizational Reports

In 2023, we celebrated our 40th anniversary, reflecting on the Centre’s accomplishments over the years. We are proud of the progress so far, thanks to our team’s hard work and dedication. We recently created a Settlement Resource Centre and two new bridging programs to support our clients in pursuing their goals toward a new life in Canada.

As the 2022 winter turned to spring, we too began to see signs of a brighter life unfolding. Restrictions were gradually lifted and people began to gather in person again. In this report, we reflect on a year where our communities reemerged, recentered, and reimagined, and where the Centre reconfirmed its commitment to serving newcomers in all stages of their journey.

Annual Report 2021

During 2021, as the global pandemic continued to impact our communities in various socio-economic ways, it was especially important to everyone at the MNLCT to embrace a compassionate care approach. Anyone who sought out our services would be greeted and served with kindness, care, and compassion.

Annual Report 2020

2020 was an unprecedented year, unlike anything we have all experienced in modern times. The COVID-19 global pandemic washed over our lives, our plans, and our dreams as it painted the world with a broad brush and forced us to isolate in place, physically distance ourselves, and maybe most importantly, to rethink how we connect with each other.

Annual Report 2019

2019 was a year of community, with the MNLCT holding multiple successful events for newcomers and host community members to enjoy spending time together. We also focused on developing a Theory of Change to help us better understand how we impact our communities and set the foundation for developing our next five-year strategic plan. Last, but certainly not least, we supported our staff community through leadership development and well-being activities to ensure a robust organization now and in the years to come.

Annual Report 2018

In 2018, MNLCT saw incredible growth from the seeds planted in the past few years – the Centre reached new clients and like-minded supporters, received new funding, forged new relationships and partnerships, hired new staff, moved into a new building, and offered an outstanding mix of new, revised, and expanded programming to meet the diverse needs of newcomers to Canada.

Annual Report 2017

In 2017, MNLCT remained resilient and opened its doors to thousands of newcomer families in need of support. The centre demonstrated commitment to newcomer integration and provided the keys to open, not only hearts and minds, but a multitude of “locked doors” that newcomers can face in a new country.

Annual Report 2016

Canada welcomed an influx of refugees from Syria in 2016, and MNLCT remained steadfast in its commitment to support newcomers and their families. This year’s focus was on diversification of funding, which included new government funders as well as the development of a social enterprise to support ongoing MNLCT programming.

Annual Report 2015

In 2015, we continued to build upon the objectives of the strategic plan 2014-2018, and in celebration of the achievements of newcomers, we hosted our first Citizenship & Inclusion Ceremony.

Annual Report 2014

In 2014, the MNLCT embarked on a planning process built upon our 30 years of experience and core values resulting in three  strategic objectives: building a resilient organization, designing responsive programs and maximizing community impact.

Annual Report 2013

In 2013, MNLCT marked its 30th year of helping immigrants and refugees build new lives in Canada. This report reflects upon the objectives of the strategic plan 2010-2013.

Annual Report 2012

Our work in 2012 was centred on consolidating our programs and resources around our areas of strengths, and focus on delivering relevant, useful programs that support the integration goals of immigrants and refugees living in Toronto.

Annual Report 2011

2011 marked a year of change for the Mennonite New Life Centre. Changes in funding levels that inspired us to find innovative ways to continue to support newcomers for full integration, build organizational capacity and strengthen community engagement for social justice and social change.

As a member-based community settlement agency, the Mennonite New Life Centre of Toronto has been a place of welcome and friendship since 1983. The Centre’s many programs and services help newcomer families from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds build a new life in Canada. Our holistic approach brings together practical assistance, emotional support, and community engagement practices within an anti-oppression and gender justice framework.

Strategic Plan 2022-2025

MNLCT was committed to building a solid strategic plan informed by good data and meaningful stakeholder consultation. A comprehensive knowledge gathering process included a literature review as well as engagement with over 450 clients and newcomers in four languages (English, Arabic, Mandarin, and Spanish), 10 community partners and funders, and over 35 staff and Board members.

Strategic Plan 2014-2018

The MNLCT strategic direction builds upon more than 30 years of experience. We continue committed to supporting newcomers on their journey to full integration and participation in Canadian life. Our objectives are: building a resilient organization, designing responsive programs and maximizing community impact.

Strategic Plan 2010-2013

Our strategic plan is about living our vision from the inside out – strengthening programs and partnerships to support full integration for newcomers, engaging communities in the work of justice and social change, and building organizational capacity and teamwork.
