How to make your BREM application the best it can be

BREM has a comprehensive application process to ensure alignment with the CRPO entry-to-practice requirements as well as the eligibility criteria of our funder the Government of Ontario.

While many components of your candidacy may already be set (such as your education and years of professional experience outside of Canada), there are some aspects that you can still influence as you proceed with your application.

Have your documents ready before applying

The applications that move most quickly through the application process are those with all required documents ready to be uploaded once the initial application has been reviewed and screened for eligibility.

This is the process:

Once a candidate’s initial application has been reviewed and they are eligible to upload documents, the quicker and more accurately the documents are uploaded (i.e. upload the education document in the education spot) the quicker they will move through the document review stage and be ready for the professional communication assessment.

Continue to polish your professional English communications skills

While a CLB 7 is the minimum requirement for entry to BREM, it’s important to understand that it’s just that – a minimum; many candidates apply with higher scores and in the labour market a CLB 9–10 is considered appropriate for full professional functioning. We encourage you to continue developing your professional communication skills while your application is in process.

Candidates must provide documentation of CLB 7+ in all domains (reading, writing, listening, speaking) near the beginning of the application process, and they must also be able to successfully navigate an online professional communications assessment and a professional interview with BREM staff and two Registered Psychotherapists as the last stage of the application process.

Candidates can sharpen their professional English communications skills by joining English programs (LINC, ESL, ELT, OSLT, English conversation),  watching/reading local news and shows, joining networking events.  If you have documentation for a CLB 6 and you want to be reassessed prior to the usual two-year waiting period, you can request an ELTPA assessment to acquire documentation for higher CLB levels. Get more information about ELTPA.

Demonstrate your professionalism throughout the application process

Working in Canada requires not only technical expertise in your field but also the ability to interact respectfully with colleagues, clients, and the community in general. We understand that these soft skills are part of what BREM teaches, and we believe that this learning can begin during the application process. Candidates who demonstrate disrespectful behaviour, such as yelling or using offensive language, will be informed; those who continue to show the same behaviour will not be considered to be strong BREM candidates.

We are sharing an update on the technical issues MNLC is experiencing.

When the issue was first identified, it appeared to be a technical disruption with one of our systems. Through further investigation, we confirmed that the technical issue was the result of a malicious cybersecurity incident.

Since then, we have been working closely with external cybersecurity experts to understand what happened, contain the incident, and secure our systems.

Based on what we know so far, we have not found evidence that clients’ personal information has been accessed. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are continuing to assess the full scope. If we determine that anyone’s personal information has been affected, we will contact those individuals directly.

We know this disruption has made it harder to reach us, and we are sorry for the frustration and concern this may have caused—especially for the newcomers, refugees, and others in our community who rely on our services. We understand that privacy, safety, and access to support are especially important, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Our phone and email systems remain temporarily unavailable as we take the necessary steps to restore them safely. In the meantime, you can continue to reach us at the temporary emails listed below for urgent matters, or visit us in person.

As a precaution, we encourage everyone to be cautious of unexpected emails, phone calls, or messages claiming to be from our organization. We will not ask for sensitive personal information through unofficial channels.

We will continue to share updates as we learn more.

Thank you for your patience and trust. We are actively addressing the incident and strengthening our systems to better protect the people we serve.

Our Keele office is open from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Settlement staff are available to answer questions and provide guidance, and LINC in-person classes are running as usual.
