English for Psychotherapy

Enhance Your English & Strengthen Your Mental Health Practic

Designed for mental health professionals, aspiring psychotherapists, and Registered Psychotherapists looking to work more with English-speaking clients, the course helps participants gain confidence speaking English in therapeutic settings. It’s a warm, practice-focused program to help professionals thrive in Ontario’s mental health field. 

Online Classes 

July 21 – October 16, 2026 

Tuesdays, 7:00–8:30 PM

What to expect:

  • 5 hours/week for 12 weeks (18 hours total)
  • Small groups (6–12 participants) for personalized attention
  • Focused practice in English accuracy, fluency & pronunciation for psychotherapy
  • Real-world scenarios, role-plays & constructive feedback in a safe environment

Your Instructor: Brenda Kaya 

With 25+ years teaching English to adults, Brenda teaches Professional Communication for Psychotherapists in the BREM program. She understands the language and cultural nuances needed for effective counselling in Ontario.

Who can join? 

This class is open to anyone already working in the mental health field who wants to strengthen their English for counselling/psychotherapy practice. It is open to individuals of all immigration statuses. You’ll make meaningful progress in a supportive community of peers who are in the same professional fields and who share your professional goals.

You must have a minimum language score of CLB 7 or an equivalent score on another English language assessment (e.g., IELTS, CELPIP, Duolingo, TOEFL, ELTPA, or Pearson).

No tests. No grades. Just practice, feedback, and growth in your professional voice.

How we work on Canada Day Week

All our offices will be closed from Monday, June 29th, to Friday, July 3rd inclusive.

LINC, Mental Health, and Bridging programs are available virtually on Monday, June 29, and Tuesday, June 30.

Community Health Services is available virtually on Tuesday, June 30.

We will reopen on Monday, July 6th.

  • Settlement staff are available at our Keele office in Units 111 (Resource Centre) & 112 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday to Friday to answer questions and provide guidance. 
  • LINC in-person classes are running as usual at Keele office and online.
  • HAP is closed for the summer.
  • Community Health Services is able to support at our Finch office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
