Help nominate MNLC as a Toronto Community Champion

Every day at MNLC, newcomers walk through our doors carrying big hopes and heavy stories. They come to learn English, understand their new community, find confidence, and build a future for their families in Toronto. Through language instruction, educational programs, workshops, and trauma-informed supports, MNLC helps people not just settle, but truly belong.

Now, our community has a powerful opportunity to make that work even more visible.

The City of Toronto is accepting nominations for the Toronto Community Champion Award, a special recognition that honours organizations making extraordinary contributions to Indigenous, Black, and other equity-deserving communities.

What makes this award different is that organizations cannot nominate themselves, it is the people who use, experience, and benefit from services who decide who deserves recognition.

That means you!

If MNLC has helped you learn English, gain new skills, feel more confident navigating life in Canada, or find connection through our programs and workshops, you can nominate us for this award.

Why this matters

Recognition from the City of Toronto is not just an honour. It strengthens MNLC’s ability to continue delivering high-quality, inclusive programs across the city. It helps funders, partners, and policymakers understand the real impact of community-based, culturally responsive services. And most importantly, it lifts up the voices of the people who know MNLC best, the students, families, and community members who experience our work first-hand.

When MNLC is recognized, it tells a bigger story about what’s possible when newcomers are supported with respect, dignity, and opportunity.

Who can nominate

You can nominate MNLC if you:

  • Live in Toronto
  • Have personal experience with MNLC’s services or impact
  • Are NOT an MNLC staff member, volunteer, or board member

The nomination form asks about:

  • What services MNLC provides
  • Who MNLC serves
  • What makes MNLC stand out and how it has impacted you and your community

Your voice and your story are what matter most.
