Gender-Based Violence and Human Trafficking Survivor Support

MNLC supports individuals who are experiencing or recovering from human trafficking, gender-based violence (GBV), and intimate partner violence (IPV). Many people come to MNLC during moments of uncertainty; when something feels wrong, unsafe, or unsustainable, but they are not sure what to do next.

We are seeing an increase in individuals seeking support related to abuse, exploitation, and coercive control. MNLC’s role is to provide a safe entry point to care, offering trauma-informed, culturally responsive supports that prioritize dignity, choice, and safety.

You don’t have to have the right words.

If something in your life feels unsafe, controlling, or overwhelming, or if you’re worried about someone you care about, MNLC can help you explore your options.

You don’t need to know whether what you’re experiencing is “abuse” or “trafficking.” You don’t need a referral. And you don’t need to decide anything right away.

Support can start with a conversation.

Our Approach

MNLC takes a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach rooted in respect, choice, and confidentiality. We recognize that experiences of abuse, exploitation, and control are complex, and that safety, healing, and readiness look different for everyone.

Individuals do not need to identify with specific labels, disclose details they are not ready to share, or be in crisis to access support. Many people come to MNLC simply because something doesn’t feel right, or because they are looking for clarity, safety, or next steps. That is enough.

We work at each person’s pace, prioritizing consent, autonomy, and dignity in every interaction. Our role is not to tell someone what to do, but to help them understand their options, strengthen their sense of agency, and access supports that align with their needs and values.

MNLC understands that cultural background, language, immigration status, family dynamics, and past experiences with systems can all shape how safe it feels to seek help. We aim to create an environment where individuals feel seen, believed, and supported, without judgment or pressure.

Support at MNLC can begin with a single conversation. From there, we walk alongside individuals as they navigate what comes next, however small or gradual that step may be.

We are sharing an update on the technical issues MNLC is experiencing.

When the issue was first identified, it appeared to be a technical disruption with one of our systems. Through further investigation, we confirmed that the technical issue was the result of a malicious cybersecurity incident.

Since then, we have been working closely with external cybersecurity experts to understand what happened, contain the incident, and secure our systems.

Based on what we know so far, we have not found evidence that clients’ personal information has been accessed. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are continuing to assess the full scope. If we determine that anyone’s personal information has been affected, we will contact those individuals directly.

We know this disruption has made it harder to reach us, and we are sorry for the frustration and concern this may have caused—especially for the newcomers, refugees, and others in our community who rely on our services. We understand that privacy, safety, and access to support are especially important, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Our phone and email systems remain temporarily unavailable as we take the necessary steps to restore them safely. In the meantime, you can continue to reach us at the temporary emails listed below for urgent matters, or visit us in person.

As a precaution, we encourage everyone to be cautious of unexpected emails, phone calls, or messages claiming to be from our organization. We will not ask for sensitive personal information through unofficial channels.

We will continue to share updates as we learn more.

Thank you for your patience and trust. We are actively addressing the incident and strengthening our systems to better protect the people we serve.
